Back For the Evening

One would think that the friday before classes start would be an incredible party night at the bars… but no.
I guess not everyone is back yet.

I did run into my friend Lori tonight, and her friend from home. They seemed to be having a good time; but this is starting to look like a journal.

Looking out my window here, a quote by Robin Williams comes to my mind: "Lo! For the moon hangs low like a testicle in the sky!" It's just a crescent moon floating just above the buildings at this late hour of the night. I would hope one day to be regarded as brilliant as him. Or Dennis Miller. They are among the brightest public figures of our time, either one could probably outwit Dubya drunk and stoned.

As a final note, I am reminded that Will Wheaton was on The Screensavers this evening as a guest host. WOOT!

Weather

I would just like to say it’s HOT out there. It’s not good when you break a sweat breathing.

Mars and the Moon

Next wednesday, when Mars is going to be closest to the earth, is also a new Moon! Go out and look at that big, red, brightest object in the sky. No moon to infrige on the glory that is the red planet.

And -- Wave to the Martains.

PaR Ty!

Summer is almost over. Nothing brings that home so much as an "End of Summer Party".

I say this because I made it to one last weekend. Much of the usual, music, food, and beer. Cheap generic american light beer of some kind, but I was only required to have a few.

Also, a big bonfire and fireworks. Nothing says party like burning something.

Yes, the End of Summer Party harkens back to ancient primal feelings.

I guess my point is thus: Go to one; or more. Have fun. Labor Day is coming, the National holiday for barbecue and End of Summer Partying. You don't need any more excuses.

Almost Heaven

I was down in West Virginia last weekend. It's been a pretty wet summer here, out east, and last weekend was no exception. We were up on the mountain looking at a couple of new caves when the storm came in.

The rain, however set the stage for a wonderful sunset. We were just south of Seneca Rocks, watching the sun set through a similar gap in the mountain, with the clouds and mists flowing through the gap and in the valley beyond. I'll have to post a picture up soon.

West Virginia is the second most beautiful place I have been, right after the Scottish Highlands. After that, my ratings get muddy. If you haven't been to the area near Seneca Rocks, you should go. See the local commercial caves, hike to the top of the rocks, go to the top of the mountain. The views are stunning.

Be prepared, however, it seems that the special in nearly every restaurant is a hot roast beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy. Speciality food is hard to come by.

I am the Govenator

Cheezy, yeah.

Well, last night he did it. He deciced to run for governor. Not what I would have done. I would have waited until the next full election because it is going to be difficult to come out of this looking too well considering the mess California is in, but then I live on the other side of the country, and don't have my finger on the pulse there.

Yesterday I had to fix my girlfriend's computer. I have looked longingly at those "No, I will NOT fix your computer" T-shirts. Suffice to say, her family had conveniently loaded nearly every bit of spy-ware on it possible, which was pretty much the problem. It was so bad the only way Ad-Aware would work was to reboot XP into "Safemode" and run it from that.

And there was a list of at least 10 critical updates to be installed. I will reserve my "I hate Windoze" rant for sometime later.

I have begun reading Lord of the Rings again lately. It has been years since I last read it, and I have again noticed something strange happens to you after you read one of Tolkien's books. For a little while you think and talk like the book.
The actors in the movie do that too. That manner of speech just worms itself into your head.

Well, I shall attempt to make up for some lost blogging this week. See you later.
